Del Dotto Estate Winery and Caves
Del Dotto has a location in Napa and St Helena. While both are wonderful, I found the new St Helena location to be the most impressive. Tastings are available without the tour however I would definitely recommend the cave tour to truly experience Del Dotto.
Upon entering Del Dotto it is becomes immediately obvious that this winery is beyond luxury. You are greeted by an incredibly massive and beautiful fountain outside, a beautiful Venetian chandelier and amazing Italian fresco paintings above the main tasting bar. There are Italian marble columns and statues everywhere along with a beautiful mosaic tile floor consisting of the Greek God of wine, Dionysus. Just when you think it couldn’t possibly get more extravagant, you enter the cave which houses additional Venetian chandeliers, marble floors and candelabras along the mosaic filled walls. The lighting gives the cave a magical glow.
The tour is fascinating as you experience tasting the wine straight out of the barrels and get a chance to compare various types of oak barrels and toasting methods. Several of the wines are still in production and won’t be available for a few years. Following the cave tour, you head back to the main entrance way and taste several more bottled wines along with a port. All throughout the tasting and tour, your senses are filled with the aroma of rich red wine, visual beauty and classical Italian music.
The combination of the richly extravagant beauty and unique experience of tasting incredible wines straight out of the barrel in a romantically lit cave is definitely an experience not to be missed!
