The OKO Organic Pinot Noir 2020 is sourced from certified organic vineyards in the Vin de Pays D’Oc region of the Languedoc in eastern France. OKO is an eco-wine company that specializes in organic wines grown in various wine regions. For example, they offer an organic Pinot Grigio from the Veneto region of Italy.

The OKO Organic Pinot Noir 2020 is 97% Pinot Noir and 3% Grenache and I do not think this wine is exclusive to Trader Joe’s. It sells for $9.99 at TJ’s and other sellers on the web have it priced from $12 to $25 with most prices falling in the middle. If you are someone who thinks ten bucks is too cheap for a French Pinot Noir, feel free to pay more for the same wine.

The name OKO is short for okologie which is German for ecology. They do offer much in the way of technical notes for wine production. The tasting notes mention, raspberry, cherry, licorice, oak, and tobacco. The OKO Organic Pinot Noir 2020 has some sort of oak seasoning, probably oak barrels, and a decent bit of age since this is a 2020 vintage wine in the fall of 2022.

The Languedoc is the largest French wine region and this known for producing value-priced wines. There are AOC-classified areas of the Languedoc, but Vin de Pays wines are common. Vin de Pays means that either the wine was not produced to all the AOC rules and regulations or the vineyards lay outside the AOC boundaries.

When choosing a Languedoc wine in the value-price range, a high-quality Vin de Pays wine can very well be a better choice than a lower AOC wine. The alcohol content is 13%.

The OKO Organic Pinot Noir 2020 Tasting Notes

The color is a light, see-thru garnet red with a clear halo. The nose is smokey, with a whiff of spice, red berries, herbs, chocolate brownies, raspberry, and vanilla spice. The OKO Organic Pinot Noir 2020 is soft, smooth, and balanced, with some spice on the mid-palate.

This Pinot Noir tastes like black cherry, brown sugar (not sweet), toasted vanilla, plum, and herbs. The mid-palate adds a slap of spice, tart cherry, and a hint of cigar tobacco. The tannins are sweet and the acidity is balanced.

The Summary

  • The OKO Organic Pinot Noir 2020 is an interesting wine and well worth the $9.99 price tag.
  • This is a smooth, balanced Pinot Noir with distinctive flavors and textures.
  • If you want to pay more for the OKO Organic Pinot Noir 2020 but TJ’s price is a bargain.

    Hi,

Wine producers are not required to provide dietary information on wine, so info is hard to find. There is no fat in wine, but here is a good article about
    calories, carbs, and sugar https://winefolly.com/deep-dive/sugar-in-wine-chart/
Brut or dry Prosecco has the same amount of calories as a lite beer.
