The Barefoot Bubbly Brut Rosé 2020 is a Sparkling wine made with the Charmat Method (just like Prosecco) and produced by E & J Gallo. This particular version of this Bubbly is the Pride Edition and seems to be vintage-dated, this is usually a non-vintage Bubbly.

Barefoot Bubbly Brut Rosé 2020

Barefoot does not list the grapes used or what is different in this vintage-dated version of the wine. Most Sparkling wines, from Prosecco, from Champagne, from California, are produced by blending different vintages. This allows the producer to keep the Bubbly tasting the same year after year.

Expensive Bubbly is often vintage-dated and in the value-priced segment only exceptional vintages are singled out and a vintage version is created. But there is no indication of why the Barefoot Bubbly Brut Rosé 2020 is vintage wine.

There are plenty of sites online that talk about the special edition rainbow packaging and no one talking about the Bubbly inside the bottle. I did find a few websites that said the Barefoot Bubbly Brut Rosé 2020 used Chardonnay and Pinot Nero grapes, but both of the sites also said this wine was from Champagne from France and not California wine, so I do not trust their info.

This Bubbly is made the same way as Prosecco. After the grapes are fermented the first time and aged to the winemaker’s specification, it is transferred to huge pressurized tanks. Yeast and sugar are added to the tanks, the pressure is turned on and in a couple of weeks to a few months, the bubbles are added.

The bottle says California Champagne, but it is made like Prosecco. Champagne sued various winemakers to stop them from using the Champagne name and protect their trademark. Gallo got grandfathered in so they can legally use the Champagne name even if it’s confusing. The alcohol content is 11.5%

The Barefoot Bubbly Brut Rosé 2020 Tasting Notes

The color is ink with a copper tint. The nose is ripe red berries, grapefruit, a hint of bakery bread, juicy peach, and tart cranberry. The Barefoot Bubbly Brut Rosé 2020 is a tart Bubbly with slightly nectar-sweet flavors.

This Bubbly tastes like cherry, stone fruit, tangerine, peach, pear, and green apple. The mid-palate brings that salty/ nutty “on-lees” sensation and a hint of sour fruit candies.

The acidity sets your palate up for the next sip and this is a very tasty Bubbly, if not particularly complex.

The Summary

  • The Barefoot Bubbly Brut Rosé 2020 is a good-tasting, well-made Bubbly.
  • I do not know if the non-vintage Barefoot Bubbly tastes the same, so look for the vintage-dated special edition.
  • This is a fun Bubbly that does not take itself too seriously, but it is full of seriously good flavor.
