Wish Flower White Blend 2016

The Wish Flower White Blend 2016 is a $4.99 Trader Joe’s exclusive sourced from vineyards in more than one California grape growing AVA. This is a custom wine produced for Trader Joe’s by Fior di Sole, a private label and custom crush facility located in Napa, California. Fior di Sole roughly translates to “flowers in the sun” which seems to account for the Wish Flower name. Other than that there is no information available for this bottle, no mention of the grapes in the blend or how the wine was made. The back label has some nonsense about young girls and dandelions in the 1800s, they should have skidded that and told us about the blend. But, I guess it is silly to complain about the details for a $4.99 bottle of wine. The alcohol content is 13.5%.

The color is a pale and crystal clear wheat yellow. The nose is bright and delicate tropical fruit, apples and pears (it reminds me of Sauvignon Blanc though I don’t know if there is any Sauv Blanc in the blend). This is a medium-bodied, dry wine with decent acidity (now it reminds me of Chardonnay). It tastes of lemon, green apple, pear, and a little melon. The mid-palate brings a bit of cashew and tart grapefruit. The acidity is nicely balanced this is a food wine and a sipping wine. The finish is full and stay around for a while.

The Wish Flower White Blend 2016 is a decent, no-issues White blend, I wouldn’t say it was delicious, but it ain’t bad. I take back my bitching about the lack of information and the nonsense label, they put their money in the bottle and not on the label and that is the way it should be. I tasted the Wish Flower at room temperature, but I would recommend putting a chill on the bottle. I think that may help balancing out the flavors. Its pretty good warm and would only get better chilled down.

Don’t tell anyone, but there is absolutely no correlation between the cost of wine and the quality of wine.
