Ferrari-Carano Dry Sangiovese Rose’ 2016

The Ferrari-Carano Dry Sangiovese Rose’ 2016 is sourced from estate vineyards in the Sonoma County AVA of Northern California. Ferrari Carano (founded in 1985) have 19 estate sustainably farmed vineyards along with 1400 acres of vines and are large enough to have 2 wineries, one for making Red wine and the other for White wine. This is a bright, dry, crisp Rose’ fermented and aged (for a little while) in stainless steel tanks. The alcohol content is 13.8%.

The color is a pale salmon pink. The nose is bright and fruit-forward, cherry, raspberry, strawberry, pink lemonade, lemon, and roses. This a light, delicate, refined, crisp Rose’. It starts with dried cherries, watermelon, a twist of lime, and fresh strawberry. The mid-palate adds blackberry (but not sweet) and a slap of spice. They were not kidding when they put “Dry” in the name, that lack of excess sweetness makes this a very capable summer refresher. The acidity is well-balanced, you could do well pairing this Sangiovese Rose’ with simply prepared seafood and pasta with white sauce, but I think it is at its peak as a summer sipper. The finish is subtle, but you will still be tasting this 3 hours later.

The Ferrari-Carano Dry Sangiovese Rose’ 2016 is an excellent, tasty, well priced Rose”. A quick check of the web found the wine selling within a few bucks of $12. A nice price for a delicious Rose’ from a well-respected producer.

Don’t tell anyone, but there is absolutely no correlation between the cost of wine and the quality of wine.
