Skinnygirl Pinot Grigio 2012

skinnygirlpinotgrigio2012The 2012 Skinnygirl Pinot Grigio is sourced from vineyards located in more than one California grape growing AVA. Skinnygirl wines are the newest additions to Bethenny Frankel’s line of low calorie pre-mixed drinks and spirits. This Pinot Grigio has 100 calories per 5 ounce serving and 10% alcohol content, a typical Pinot Grigio has 122 calories per 5 oz and a 12.5% alcohol content. This Pinot Grigio is fermented and aged in stainless steel tanks.

The color is a very pale golden yellow. The nose is crisp and clean, a mix of grapefruit and pineapple, with a little lemon and spring flowers. This Pinot Grigio is soft and mellow with smooth acidity. It tastes of lemon, melon, blood orange and pink grapefruit. The mid palate shows a touch of lime and a slight tingle from the acidity. The finish is subtle, but lengthy.

The 2012 Skinnygirl Pinot Grigio a very tasty wine, you pay no penalty for the low calories or alcohol. Not a food  wine, a little too delicate to stand up to most dishes, but will do fine as an aperitif or a sipping wine. The Skinnygirl Pinot Grigio does not match up to the best Pinot Grigio/Gris from Italy or Oregon, but is a very accessible wine for the casual wine drinker.
