Trader Joe’s Reserve North Coast Brut Sparkling Wine

89820The Trader Joe’s Reserve North Coast Brut Sparkling Wine ($9.99) is 60% Chardonnay and 40% Pinot Noir (a Blanc de Noir) sourced from grapes grown in California’s North Coast. The North Coast encompasses 50 different AVA’s, with the main growing areas being Sonoma, Napa Valley and Mendocino. Made by Rack and Riddle, the only custom Sparkling wine producer in California. This Bubbly is made in the Methode Champagne style, the second fermentation takes place in each individual bottle and not in huge vats, which is the same way they make bubbly in Champagne, France. The alcohol content is 12.5%.

The color is pale golden yellow and the bubbles are lively and plentiful. The nose is apples, lemon and lime with a light touch of crusty bakery bread. I first thing I notice is the acidity is very balanced, some inexpensive Sparkling wines can lean a bit too much to the acidic side of things. It tastes of very tart apple, non-sweet pear, buttered bread and Sierra Mist. There is a touch of creaminess to the mid palate along with unsweetened pineapple juice. A tart, crisp Bubbly with a little touch of yeasty bread and creamy texture. The acidity helps the finish linger on and on and on.

The Trader Joe’s Reserve North Coast Brut Sparkling Wine is one of those Sparkling wines that makes you want to keep topping off your glass. This is tasty stuff and at ten bucks a bottle, this can really kick that holiday party into overdrive. And it is classy enough to be a great choice for the toast at your holiday feast. Getting your Bubbles on has never been easier and cheaper than it is today.

Don’t tell anyone, but there is absolutely no correlation between the cost of wine and the quality of wine.
