Jaume Serra Cristalino Extra Dry Cava

imagesThe Jaume Serra Cristalino Extra Dry Cava is sourced from Estate vineyards in the Alt Penedes growing region in Spain. This Sparkling wine uses the traditional Cava grapes, 50% Macabeo, 35% Parellada and 15% Xarel.lo. Cava uses the same second fermentation method (that is where the bubbles are added) as Champagne and this Cava is aged for 18 months in the bottle. Jaume Serra Winery has been around since 1943 and extra dry is the 2nd driest wine designation (Brut Nature is the driest).  I found it selling for $6.99, which is an amazing price for real Estate grown Cava. The alcohol content is 11.5%.

The color is a pale golden yellow, with tons of bubbles. The nose is pretty, apples and lemons mixed with spring flowers and bakery bread.  The flavors mirrors the nose, the first impression is Gala apples and soft lemon chiffon, followed by buttered toast and grapefruit. All the flavors are light, delicate, tart, crisp and balanced. A very bone dry wine with strong, but well balanced acidity.

The Jaume Serra Cristalino Extra Dry Brut is a crazy good $6.99 Sparkling wine. A no-issues, “Gee this tastes good” Bubbly at an every day wine price. Drink it at brunch, pour it for toasts, pop the top on New Year’s Eve or enjoy it on tuesday night. Seven buck Bubbly is a beautiful thing.

Don’t tell anyone, but there is absolutely no correlation between the cost of wine and the quality of wine.
