2009 Wine Guerrilla Sonoma County Zinfandel

17905The 2009 Wine Guerrilla Zinfandel is 85% Zinfandel and 15% Petit Sirah sourced from vineyards in the Dry Creek Valley and Russian River Valley AVA’s of Sonoma County, California. The seems to be 2 bottlings of the Sonoma County Zinfandel, there is another bottle that also has Cabernet Sauvignon and Carignan blended in, 1,100 cases of that blend were produced, 1,000 cases of the Zin/Petite Sirah blend were made. This Zin is unfiltered and unfined, which indicates all the little bits of grapes residue (and all the flavors) are left in the tanks/barrels and maybe a little is your bottle. The alcohol content is 14.5%.

The color is raspberry jam with black cherry highlights. The nose is ripe cherry and strawberry, a little pepper, some oak spice and creamy vanilla. There is an appealing balance to this Zin that is evident from the start, rich, ripe juicy blackberry starts thing off and is immediately matched by spice and creme brulee. This wine has firm tannins, but they give good structure, they don’t get in the way of the taste. Blueberry is added on the mid-palate along with cherry Twizzlers and a slight hint of herbal tea. The finish is creamy, smooth dark berry and while not particularly strong, does not quit.

The Wine Guerrilla Sonoma County Zinfandel is a delicious mix of a more elegant style of Zinfandel and a good old rough and ready Zin, the elegant style is in the lead 70% to 30%. Silky smooth with corduroy edges, the Wine Guerrilla Zinfandel is a wine that begs to consumed on its own, you don’t need food to make this Zin interesting.
