2007 Domaine Sainte-Eugenie Le Clos

imgThe Domaine Sainte-Eugenie Le Clos (translates to “enclosed field or vineyard”) is a blend of 45% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Carignan and 20% Grenache grown in Estate vineyards in the Corbieres AOC in the Languedoc, near the Mediterranean Sea in France. For some reason the Le Clos does not conform with the rules and regulations of the Corbieres AOC and is classified a Vin De Pays De Hauterive. The wines are aged individually for 9 months, then aged an additional 15 months after blending. The alcohol content is 13%.

The color is a dark strawberry red with a pink halo. The nose is complicated, it starts with cherry, then smoky autumn leaves, herbal tea and extracted blackberry. The Le Clos is silky on the tongue, fruit is soft and juicy, there is a mix of red and dark berries, cherry, raspberry, along with blueberry and cassis. The mid-palate shows a slight bite from the tannins and a touch of oak spice, while adding a little vanilla and Dr. Pepper. The finish is reasonably long.

The Domaine Sainte-Eugenie Le Clos is an absolute bargain, I found it on sale for $5.99, and should be available for under ten bucks when not on sale. A terrific food wine, yeah its French, but it will really rock BBQ ribs. Have you had a red blend from the Corbieres AOC in the Languedoc, lately? Well. I got one for you!

Don’t tell anyone, but there is absolutely no correlation between the cost of wine and the quality of wine.
