The 2009 Zuccardi Torrontes Serie A is 100% Torrontes sourced from vineyards near the town of Cafayate in the Salta region of Argentina. The wine was aged on “fine lees” for 6 months. The term “on lees” means the dead yeast and bits of stems, grape skin and seeds are left in the barrel or tank, this residue helps give the wine some structure. “Fine lees” is when the heavy residue at the bottom of the barrel or tank is filtered out and only the very small bits and pieces suspended in the wine are left, this helps soften the wine while not adding much in the way of structure. The alcohol content is 13.4%.
The color is pale golden yellow. The nose is tropical fruit and tropical flowers, very delicate and pretty. It tastes of peach, papaya and citrus, there is a very nice sweet and sour sensation. The mid-palate brings in some lemon/lime and a touch of apricot, there is a good dose of well balanced acidity and a long lasting Sierra Mist finish.
The 2009 Zuccardi Torrontes is a very well balanced, tasty summer wine. It has more than enough structure and acidity to stand up to spicy Asian dishes, while showing enough lovely fruit and citrus flavors to be enjoyed by itself on the back porch or balcony.
