2010 Bodega Elena de Mendoza Red Blend

The 2010 Bodega Elena de Mendoza Red Blend is 62% Malbec, 21% Syrah and 17% Bonarda sourced from  vineyards in the Mendoza region of Argentina. The Mendoza region is the highest altitude wine growing region in the world, which provides the grapevines with extremely long and intense exposure to the sun. Bodega Elena is a wine label owned by E & J Gallo, other Argentinian Gallo labels are Alamos and Don Miguel Gascon. The alcohol content is 13.5%.

The color is horror movie fake blood red. The nose is black and blueberry, toffee, leather with a late hit of Smuckers strawberry jam. You don’t get Malbec, Syrah, Bonarda wine blends very often, the Bodega Elena tastes very different from other red blends. A very soft, smooth wine with rounded fruit flavor and a full mouth feel. It tastes of blueberry and Starbucks Mocha Venti,  sweet cherry and Sambuca. The mid palate adds a touch of creamy vanilla custard and a shot of orange zest. The tannins are smooth and sweet and the acidity is low. The finish tastes the same as the body of the wine and starts out strong but quickly fades.

The Bodega Elena de Mendoza Red is an under $10 wine that does not taste like the same old thing. This is the style of wine that features lush fruit flavor over structure, if you are looking for nuance and complexity you have come to the wrong place, you want loads of tasty fruit, then step on up.
