Purple Cowboy Wines are the Official Wine of the Professional Rodeo Cowboy’s Association and is directly associated with the “Tough Enough to Wear Pink?” Foundation that has raised over $9 million for Breast Cancer Charities. The wines are marketed toward women and they have a website, winesisterhood.com, that gives recipes and party ideas, along with social networking. The Purple Cowboy Tenacious Red is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah sourced from Paso Robles, California, the blend changes with each vintage, so every year the wine will taste a bit different. The alcohol content is 13.5%.
The color is a strawberry jello red with black cherry highlights. It has an interesting nose, there is plum, cigar box, blackberry and Nestle Quick powder. The initial flavor is juicy strawberry Twizzlers and milk chocolate, the mid-palate brings in some a light touch of Syrah spice and blueberry. The finish does not last long, but tastes of chocolate covered blueberries.
The Purple Cowboy Tenacious Red is not complex and lacks structure and depth, but it does taste good. This is not really a food wine, will do well for pizza and burgers, but is just fine for a small gathering of friends or relaxing while watching TV. The Purple Cowboy is available at Target and local grocery stores and is a cut above the usual offerings.
