2008 Airfield Estates Bombshell Red

100% Estate grown grapes from the Airport Estates Vineyard located at the foot of the Rattlesnake Mountains in Yakima Valley, Washington. The Bombshell Red is a blend of 41% Syrah, 35% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Sangiovese and 3% Cabernet Franc. The blend changes dramatically every year, with the grapes used and the percentage of the grapes varying with each vintage. The wine is aged for a little less than a year in both new and neutral French oak. Alcohol content is 14.7%.

A nice dark ruby red. Dark fruit on the nose, plum, blackberry, black cherry and a little cinnamon.  Very lush, intense fruit on the palate, blackberry, cassis, dark chocolate, silky smooth, but not complex. The tannins and the oak are very well integrated, the Bombshell Red has good structure and decent acidity and all the components of the wine are well balanced. A very long dark fruit finish.

Big, juicy, lush and fun, the Bombshell Red is a crowd pleaser. Would pair very well with burgers and pizza and just about any cold weather beef stews or roasts.
