The Lady In Red 7th Edition is a red blend from Kestrel Estates in Central Washington State. The blend mostly uses grapes from the 2006 vintage, but the wine from the 6th Edition comprises 20% of the blend. That way, there is a continuity between each edition of this wine, even if the grapes in each blend change. The blend for the 7th Edition is 50% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Syrah. The grapes are sourced from Yakima Valley and Columbia Valley in Washington, 40% of the wine is aged in oak barrels and the alcohol content is 13.8%.
A strawberry jello red. The nose is cherry, raspberry and those chocolate mint Girl Scout cookies. The first thing you notice is that the wine has a light body and there is a good amount of acidity evident. The wine tastes of plums and blackberry at first, then every sip brings different flavors, tea, herbs and vanilla get added into the mix. The tannins are there but don’t get in the way and there is a very nice long finish.
Complex, but approachable and quite frankly fun to drink. You can pair this with food, but for myself, I would drink the Lady in Red 7th Edition on it’s own.
