Rimon Pomegranate Dessert Wine

Another tasting at the Park Avenue Wine Bar in Barrington, Illinois yielded me the pleasure of meeting Maria Pomerantz of Maria’s Wines in Chicago. She had some great offerings all around including a Merlot out of Monterey that smelled and tasted like Coca Cola (Perfecta). But one of the most unique pours was this wine from Rimon (Rimon is an ancient word for pomegranate).

Cool fact #1 – it’s an Israeli wine. Whoa! When’s the last time you had wine from the Galilee region? Yeah, me either.

Cool fact #2 – it’s made not from grapes but from pomegranate aged 22 months in French oak. Well, we know wine is good for you, but can you say UBER healthy?

Cool fact #3 – it’s 15% alcohol so you can get your buzz on for Rosh Hashanah!

Cool fact #4 – it’s Kosher so you can get your buzz on for Rosh Hashanah!

Smells of cherries and tastes like licking Port off of Sarah Silverman (my favorite Yaldah Yafah, google it, I can’t do everything for you, what am I, chopped liver?)  after a good roll in the Autumn forest leaves. Oh and she just smoked a cigar. Very nice fruity Yiddish smokiness (that’s a technical term) that can be enjoyed with almond or apple desserts.

So L’Shanah Tovah. Sarah, call me.

Rosh Hashanah
