Tremendous Values in Portuguese Wine

wine-regionsIf you have not tried Portuguese wines, you are missing out on excellent wines at very reasonable prices. The Wines of Portugal are not trendy, yet. Wonderful Alvarinho and Moscatel white wines are crisp and flavorful, very food friendly and can be found for under $10 (usually well under ten dollars). The red wines are serious wines, well made, estate grown and bottled and selling for half the price of a comparable wine from another region.

Portuguese wines are made from grapes indigenous to Portugal, you are not going to find the usual Syrah, Merlot, Chardonnay varietals. Instead you will find Alvarinho, Moscatel, Baga, Tinta Roriz and Touriga Nacional (the base wine for Port). These grapes are very tasty in there own right and are well worth exploring. All Portuguese wines are made to be drunk with meals. The water supply in Portugal is not the best, so wine is on the table for breakfast, lunch and diner.

You probably won’t find Portuguese wine at the local supermarket. You will have to seek them out at your local wine shop. But the quality to price ratio is higher for Portuguese Wine than for any other region. It is well worth the time and effort to find and enjoy these very tasty wines.

You are so correct! Have been a fan of Portuguese wines for about a year now. Most are well made and the QPR is fantastic. . . I agree with you. . . go seek them out.
