Rosemount Cabernet Sauvignon 2005

March 23, 2009 by ramsay

I liked the Rosemount 2005 Shiraz and had hoped that the Cabernet Sauvignon would compare well.  I haven’t reviewed that 05 Shiraz on this site and I don’t plan to because you can’t find it anymore.  Rosemount is sorta like the Yellow Tail label in that its cheap and people often buy it because they recognize it.

So what do we think of this here wine? Well the pros think its a good value for the price. Both Spectator and Wine Enthusiast gave it a 86. Not bad.

Maybe I’m just approaching it a little late being that it is 2009. I think the wine is still drinkable but there isn’t anything to be excited about. It has marshmallow, chocolate and cherry on the nose but I also got a little, very little bit of old smelling red fruit.

The taste is better though. The cherries come through nice along with that same chocolate mocha marshmallow dusting that we got on the nose. The taste matches up very well with the color of the wine. The tannins are very mild at this point and the fruit dominates.

This is certainly a drinkable wine and I don’t have much negative to say about it. The fruit is a little fake but its still ok. You won’t be able to find this wine on the shelves much longer either. Drink the 2005 now or never.
