Seghesio Zinfandel Sonoma County 2007

November 30, 2008 by ramsay

A big picture for a big wine. This one is a special zinfandel. Best of all you can find it at your local premium grocery and wine store. Actually, best of all, its available for under $20 a bottle at many wine retailers.

Each year Wine Spectator puts out their list of the top 100 wines for that year. Their list was just released (see it here) and this wine was ranked number 10. Its very rare that you can find a wine for under $20 that is rates so high. The Spectator gave this wine a rating of 93 which is a very good rating for them. I don’t claim to have the same skills as the Spectator, but here is what I got out of the wine.

This zin was great.  On the nose I got cherry, blueberry and a little oak.  In the mouth I tasted a little pepper and more cherry, blueberry and a very little taste of strawberry.  This wine has perfect structure and balance making it very enjoyable.  Its very smooth.

There were 63,000 cases of this wine so its probably going to be available for a while.  Now that it has come in so high on the top 100 list demand is going to increase and I wouldn’t be suprised to see prices rise.

Price: $19
Varietal: Zinfandel
County: USA – Sonoma
Cheap Wine Rating: 98
